ROMANS 5:12, 15, 17-21; PSALM 40; LUKE 12:35-38
St. Paul says in the first reading “Do not yield your members to sin as instruments of wickedness, but yield yourselves to God as men who have been brought from death to life.” The word “members” here refers to the members of the body – the hands, legs, feet, eyes, tongue, etc. This implies that we should not devote our hands, tongue, eyes etc., to sinful passions, corrupt desires and as intruments of wickedness. Rather, give or devote them to God. Devote every member of your body to God and his service. If you have hands, use them; our tongues should be devoted to praising God and to the office of truth; our eyes should see his wonders and excite gratitude. In line with this, Jesus says in the gospel “Every one to whom much is given, of him will much be required.” Therefore, be devoted and worship the Lord with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. If you are not devoted to God now; you shall be demoted on the last day!

Almighty Father, we rededicate our bodies and all its parts to the loving rule of Jesus Christ; we consecrate ourselves to you in every way. Holy Spirit make us holy once more and revive our spirits, fill us, restore us and bring us under the complete dominion of Jesus Christ. Amen!
