HOMILY FOR SATURDAY THE THIRTY SECOND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR I

Wisdom 18:14-16, 19:6-9; Psalm 105; Luke 18:1-8

Today’s gospel relates Jesus’ discourse on his final coming to the importance of Christian prayer through the parable of the ‘dishonest’ judge. If the poor widow who cried to the unjust judge persistently was granted justice; God who is Just and True will definitely give answers to those who cry to him persistently. But the problem is that we are easily discouraged when we don’t get desired answers to our prayers. Friends; we must learn to approach God in faith and trust. We must learn to pray persistently irrespective of answers. God sometimes pends answers so that we can spend time with him. But most Christians pray only they are in trouble. If you pray only when you are in trouble; you are in trouble.  God may seem to delay his response, but he will surely act on our behalf. Jesus will surely come however long-delayed his coming may seem. Therefore, let us not cease praying and pleading for redemptive justice. In line with this, today’s first reading reminds us of God’s faithfulness to his people while the psalm calls us to remember the wonders the Lord has done. Friends, God never fails and he will not fail us whenever we call on him.

LET US PRAY

Be thou glorified oh Lord God. Through your Son Jesus Christ we ask that you increase our faith. Help us to remember that you are a mighty God able to do what man cannot do. By the power of the Holy Spirit cause a deeper intimate relationship with you through persistent prayers and charity. Amen.
