HOMILY FOR TUESDAY THE SECOND WEEK OF ADVENT: MEMORIAL OF ST AMBROSE

Isaiah 40:1-11; Psalm 96; Matthew 18:12-14

Like the lost sheep in the Gospel reading we all have the tendency to stray away from the right path. In attempt to seek greener pastures, many of us have strayed away from the right path. Many strayed while seeking for miracles or solutions to their problems. Isaiah 53:6 says “We all like sheep have gone astray, each one has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” So, in one way or the other we have all strayed. But we have a compassionate Father who is willing to save and restore us. The first reading says that God is like a shepherd who will feed his flock and gather his lambs in his arms. Beloved, God is interested in us; there is joy in heaven when we repent. St. Ambrose whose memorial we celebrate today tells us that repentance must not be delayed. Why not come to Jesus now?

LET US PRAY

O God, who made the Bishop Saint Ambrose a teacher of the Catholic faith and a model of apostolic courage, raise up in your Church men after your own heart to govern her with courage and wisdom. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
