ACTS 11:19-26; PSALM 87; JOHN 10:22-30
“It was at Antioch that the disciples were first called ‘Christians’” (Acts 11:26). In fact, Antioch was called “the cradle of Christianity” as a result of its longevity and the pivotal role that it played in the emergence of early Christianity. Who will call us Christians today? The disciples were called Christians because their words and deeds were Christ-like. A Christian is someone whose belief, behavior and heart express Christ. A Christian does the will of Jesus and keeps his words. Similarly, Jesus says in the gospel that “My sheep hears my voice and they follow me” (John10:27). A good Christian opens his ears to the voice of Christ and follows his injunctions. Again, Jesus reiterated; “I will give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them out of my hand” (John 10:28). Beloved, if we follow Jesus the devil will not snatch us away. If we follow Jesus we shall gain eternal life. If we follow Jesus, surely goodness and mercy shall follow us all the days of our lives, and we shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. (Psalm 23:6).
LET US PRAY
Lord Jesus, help us to overcome our weaknesses that we may hear your voice and follow you. Keep us safe from the evil one, protect us from the hands of the wicked and lead us to eternal life. Amen.
