HOMILY FOR SATURDAY THE FIFTH WEEK OF EASTER 21/5/2022

ACTS 16:1-10; PSALM 100; JOHN 15:18-2

“Servants are not greater than their master. If they persecuted me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also.” Following Jesus also means sharing his lot, being rejected and even hated by ‘the world’ because our values are different. As Christians we should be ready to face persecution. Everybody will not love you and don’t try to please everybody – even Jesus was not loved by everybody, he had oppositions and haters. Goodness sometimes offends people. So, we must be brave. In the first reading, Paul was persecuted for the sake of Christ but that did not stop him from carrying out his work. Persecution, oppositions and haters should not stop us from doing what is right and ideal.

LET US PRAY

Father, help us to triumph over the many persecutions that come our ways. Through Jesus Christ the Lord
