ACTS 18:23-28; PSALM 26; JOHN 16:23-28
Jesus says; “Very truly, I tell you, if you ask anything of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.” But how come we don’t receive even though we ask in his name? James 4:3 says; “When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” God sees our motives. In 1Kings 3:11-12 He blessed Solomon becuase his intentions were pure. He says; “Since you have asked for this instead of requesting long life or wealth for yourself or death for your enemies but you have asked for discernment to administer justice. I will do what you have asked…” Beloved, why are you asking? Why are you always fasting? What is the intention behind your prayer request? Answer these questions sincerely and have peace.
Again, Jesus says; “Very truly, I tell you, if you ask anything of the Father in my name, he will give it to you…” Friends, Jesus is the only authorized name for prayers and worship. Many names are trending today in Christianity. We must guard against idolatry and vain glory. The name of Jesus is sacred and holy. It is the only name that assures salvation (Acts 4:12). Many ministers have failed in this regard! Some have enthroned themselves and their names. Even though Apollos in the first reading was well-versed in the scriptures, Priscilla and Aquila explained the Way of God to him more accurately. Let us help ourselves! I know you are a man of God, I know you are an eloquent preacher, but you are not the owner of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, listen and learn.
LET US PRAY
Father, have mercy, Lord Jesus, help us to be humble and simple. Save us from spiritual pride and arrogance. Through the Holy Spirit deliver us from evil and despair. Amen.
