2 Chronicles 24:17-25; Psalm 89; Matthew 6:24-34
In the first reading, Jehoiada the priest dies and suddenly the people abandon the faith. Zechariah who spoke against this apostasy was put to death. Eventually, the land was taken over by the Aramaeans. This narrative calls us to be faithful to the covenants made with God.
In the gospel Jesus says; we cannot serve two masters. This is practically true. If we serve God faithfully and truly we have no need to worry about anything. Most times we are troubled because we are not faithful to God. We suffer the concomitant anxieties of our varied believes.
Lastly, Jesus adds saying; “Do not worry about tomorrow: your Father knows your needs”. Worrying is one of our most common and destructive daily habits. If we don’t control it, it controls us and endangers our health. If you treat every situation as a matter of life and death, you will die many times before your final exist. With the increasing death toll of innocent citizens, we have every reason to worry but Christ reassures to stay confident.
PRAYER
Loving God, give us the grace to stay faithful to your covenant. Grant us peace of mind and calm my troubled hearts. Amen.
