HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY WITHIN THE OCTAVE OF EASTER

Acts 3:1-10; Psalm 104; Luke 24:13-35

There are two homily notes here for our reflection

Fr. Dan Evbotokhai

The two readings today present us with the power in the name of Jesus and the power of the Holy Eucharist. In the first reading, in the name of Jesus Peter told the cripple to rise and walk. While in the breaking of bread as seen in the gospel the eyes of the disciples were opened. Beloved in Christ, we are reminded about the importance of the Holy Eucharist and the Holy name of Jesus.

Fr. Ephraim ITAMAN

1.‘The devil fears hearts on fire with love of God’-St. Catherine of Siena

2The readings of today invite us to long to encounter the resurrected Jesus.

3.Looking at the Gospel of today, Mark Link SJ, identifies three ways people may encounter Jesus namely, in a broken brother or sister (our neighbor), in the broken word (Scripture) and in the broken bread (the Eucharist).
4.Like the two disciples who were on their way to Emmaus, Jesus is always close to us. He journeys with us through every step-in life.
5.Jesus was a stranger to them, until he broke the word and the bread.
6.Jesus can be close to us yet; we may not experience and know him.
7.To experience Jesus, we must open our hearts, and allow him to reach and teach us.
8.Every encounter we have with Jesus, alters us for good.
9.When the lame man at the Beautiful Gate encountered Jesus today through Peter and John, he received healing; he went home rejoicing.
10.Invite Jesus into your situation today; wait for him to act, and the story will change for good.

An Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
