HOMILY FOR THURSDAY WITHIN THE OCTAVE OF EASTER

Acts 3:11-26; Psalm 8; Luke 24:35-48

There are two homily notes here for our reflection

Fr. D. Evbotokhai

In the the first reading we have Peter’s second address to the people. Peter told them repent and turn to God (Acts 3:19). Repentance was the message of John the Baptist (Lk3:3), Jesus continued saying repent and believe in the good news (Mk.1:15) . Repentance is the supreme business of the good news. Lastly, in today’s gospel Jesus told them repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in his name. Beloved, open your eyes, if we do not repent we shall perish.

Fr. E. Itaman
1.‘You shall be my witnesses’-Isaiah 44:8
2.The readings of today are continuations of those of yesterday; they call us to be authentic witnesses.
3.After the lame man at the Beautiful Gate was healed, the people who saw and heard about it were amazed. They now considered the apostles as being extra-ordinary people because of the miracle.
4.But Peter was quick to rebuke and correct them.
5.He made them to realize that they were just instruments used by God.
6.Whatever gift we may have as Christians, should be used to promote the work of the mission and not for self-aggrandizement.
7.Again, St. Peter made the people to realize that they were mere witnesses to the resurrection power of Jesus. And so, we are.
8.Hence, one of the hall marks of authentic witnesses is humility.
9.The Gospel reminds us that as witnesses, we must break the word of God for people especially in the manner of life we live.
10.Not to witness properly as a Christian is a sign of spiritual weakness.

An Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
