HOMILY FOR THURSDAY: THE FIRST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

HEBREWS 3:7-14; PSALM 94; MARK 1:40-45

JESUS HEALS A MAN WITH LEPROSY

In the Gospel passage for today, Jesus heals a leper. Leprosy was described in the Bible as a skin swelling with crust and a whitish patch. The leper is left horribly deformed and maimed. Leprosy is a form of sin that makes us unsightly, deformed, and mutilates our beauty.

Just as Leprosy is contagious, sin is contagious. Everyone who is not spiritually vigilant and alert is subject to its spread, trends, and corruption.

Jesus healed the leper, and He also possesses the ability to heal our spiritual leprosy. But just like the leper, we must approach Him and beg for His forgiveness and cleansing. Now is the best time to be made whole; “O that today you would listen to his voice do not harden your hearts”.

 LET US PRAY

Purify me with hyssop and I shall be clean; wash me and I shall be whiter than snow. Remove every ungodly thought, motivation or intention that resides within me. Cleanse me so that I can be made righteous through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
