HOMILY FOR TUESDAY THE FOURTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME 31/1/2023

CHRIST HEALS AND SAVES

Hebrews 12:1-4/Psalm 21/Mark 5:21-43

In the Gospel, we are presented with two miracles that demonstrated Christ’s power over life and death. Christ heals the woman with haemorrhage and restores Jarius’ daughter back to life. We are challenged to express faith in Jesus and promote life.

The woman has been suffering from hemorrhage for 12 years. She had undergone extensive treatment from numerous doctors, and after spending all of her money, her condition got worse. Have you ever been in a situation where you have spent so much on an ailment yet there is no improvement? Have you ever visited experts yet they appeared so daft? Beloved, human knowledge is limited. In the hemorrhaging or bleeding nature of our lives and society it is never too late to resort to Jesus for the best result.

Again, Jarius was almost distracted when he got the news that he shouldn’t trouble Jesus further his daughter has passed on. Oftentimes, when we are close to our miracles we tend to see more distractions. Do not be distracted; achievers are focused people. If we must achieve result we must resist distractions. Jesus said to Jarius “Do not fear, only believe” (Mk. 5:36). With Jesus there is no hopeless situation. If will believe we shall not die in our hemorrhaging nature. If we believe we shall be restored back to life and grace.

Lastly, the Church celebrates St. John Bosco today. He devoted himself to the care of the young, first of all by means of evening classes, to which hundreds came, and then by setting up a boarding-house for apprentices, and then workshops for their training and education. Today the Salesians missionaries continue his work all over the world. Care for the young!

LET US PRAY

Father, show mercy and deliver us. We face numerous obstacles; may our faith not waver. Keep premature death away from us. Heal us and help us. Amen.
