FAITH
Hebrews 11:1-7; Psalm 144; Mark 9:2-13
Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Heb 11:1). Just as our physical eyesight provides us with evidence of the physical world, faith serves as our “sense” of the invisible, spiritual world. We can only become one with the Father via faith.
Today’s gospel present us with Mark’s account of the transfiguration. At the Transfiguration Jesus’ figure changed and his clothes became dazzling white. The Transfiguration took place in order to strengthen the faith of the apostles so that in the days of the Lord’s passion, scandal and trials they may not be disfigured.
Similarly, every divine encounter equips our faith to overcome future trials and fears. Divine encounter aligns us better and makes us stronger! Without faith, we will be consumed even in the least of tirals. Heb. 11:6 says without faith, it is impossible to please God. Tears don’t move God, faith does. Have faith. 1 Tim.4:16 exhort us to keep the faith: Watch your life and doctrine closely.
Christ’s appearance with Moses and Elijah is also significant as they stood for the Law and the Prophets – important pillars of the Jewish faith. Let us be people of faith and to believe in God without hesitation.
LET US PRAY
Father, have mercy and save us. Free us from the troubles of this day. Give us wisdom and understanding. By the power of the Holy Spirit increase our faith and make us stronger. Amen.
