HOMILY FOR MONDAY AFTER PENTECOST – MEMORIAL OF MARY, MOTHER OF THE CHURCH (JUNE 1, 2020)

Gen.3:9-15,20; Ps. 87; John 19:25-34 🗣🔥🔥🔥

Today we celebrate the memorial of Mary, Mother of the Church. Catholic devotion to Mary is nothing more than a logical extension of a child’s personal affection for her own mother.  The title; Mother of the Church can properly be understood as a metaphor: Christians are children of God and brothers and sisters in Christ by adoption. So by extension, Christians inherit Christ’s mother Mary. The gospel demonstrated this relationship when Jesus on the cross gave his mother to John (The Church). Mary Mother of the Church, do not let us down.

The Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.

Amen.

Happy New Month
