2 SAMUEL 7:4-5, 12-14, 16; PSALM 88; ROMANS 4:13, 16-18, 22; MATTHEW 1:16, 18-21, 24
In the first reading God told David that his throne will stand secure forever. Psalm 89 reechoes “His dynasty shall last forever.” This promise was fulfilled in Jesus Christ as we have it in the Gospel reading. All that God promised David was fulfilled. Beloved, God keeps his promises. Though we are unfaithful he is always faithful. Let us approach him in faith and trust.
Today the Church celebrates the solemnity of St. Joseph, the husband of Mary. Joseph was a man of faith and trust. He followed the promptings of the Holy Spirit and delivered his part in the great plan for the salvation of the world. No doubt prayers and devotions are important to honour St. Joseph on a day like this; but it is more important to imitate his life and examples. From St. Joseph we can learn to listen to the Holy Spirit; express true devotion to Mary; sincere commitment to Jesus and his divine purpose. Lastly, we can also learn to harmonize the virtue of prayer and labour.
LET US PRAY
Grant, we pray, almighty God, that by Saint Joseph’s intercession your Church may constantly watch over the unfolding of the mysteries of human salvation, whose beginnings you entrusted to his faithful care. Lead us in the ways of peace, humility and grace. Amen.
