FRUITFULNESS
Sirach 44:1, 9-13; PSALM 150; MARK 11:11-26
In the first reading, we are urged to honor great men. Our predecessors who have done good things and communicated same to their descendants. Sirach 44:7-9 says “all these were honored in their generations, and were the glory of their times. There are some of them who have left a name, so that men declare their praise. And there are some who have no memorial, who have perished as though they had not lived…”
Ben Sirach distinguishes between two kinds of people; those who lived fruitful lives with impart and purpose and those who lived as though they never existed. He made this distinction because he wants us to imitate good deeds. He wants us to be men of purpose and impart.
As Christians, our relevance in the Kingdom is judged by the number of souls we are able to touch. We must be fruitful. In the gospel reading the fig tree was caused because of its unfruitfulness. No Christian should appear before Jesus unfruitful like the fig tree. Therefore, let us touch lives and make the world a better place.
LET US PRAY
Grant us, O Lord, we pray, that the course of our world may be directed by your peaceful rule and that your Children may rejoice, untroubled in their devotion. Amen.
