JESUS CALMS THE STORM
According to the Genesis 18:16-33, the Lord had vowed to destroy Gomorrah because of its inhabitants’ immorality, but he had also given Abraham a promise that if he discovered ten righteous individuals there, he would spare the city. Today, we read that only Lot, his wife, and his two daughters were found to be righteous, and that after the angels had saved Lot and his daughters, Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed. Lot’s wife had eacpaed this calamity but failed the Lord’s instruction. Do not become the architect of your own destruction.
Do you feel hopeless or overpowered? Today’s gospel exhorts us to pray to Jesus. He has the power to deliver us from the storms of life. Like the disciples we must cry out to the Lord saying: “Save us, Lord; we are perishing” save us Lord, we are sick; save us Lord, we are troubled; save us Lord, we are sinking.
Many of us have experienced being overtaken by colossal waves of apathy, dread, doubt, despair, addiction, and diversion. Jesus appeared to be sleeping throughout these moments. Jesus didn’t answer until the disciples summoned him. Let us call on the Lord when the floods appear to engulf us, let us cry out with the confidence that our voices will be heard.
Let us pray
Almighty Father, hear us, help us to abide by your instructions and save us!
