HOMILY FOR MONDAY: TENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

1 Kings 17:1-6, Psalm 121; Matthew 5:1-12🗣🔥🔥🔥

In the first reading, we see Elijah answering God’s call and doing God’s will. We are called by virtue of our baptism to do God’s will. In his will his our peace. In the Gospel, we have the Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount. The beatitudes are Christ’s commentaries on our attitudes. These short phrases give us the perfect outline for authentic Christian life and salvation. The Life and ministry of Elijah basically reflect these eternal lines of the beatitudes, yet he never heard this sermon. We who live in this generation are further challenged to live authentic Christian life.

An Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus,
I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there
and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You.

Amen.
