HOMILY FOR TUESDAY THE FIFTEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR 1

UNREPENTANT CHRISTIANS

EXODUS 2:1-15; PSALM 69; MATTHEW 11:20-24

“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes” (Matt. 11:21). With these words Jesus denounced the towns in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent.

Despite all the miracles and their spiritual experiences they remained faithless and pig-headed. Similar behaviour is seen among Christians today. The rampart nature of miracles in present day Christianity does not reflect in the life of the society. Miracles everywhere yet evil deeds on the increase. Beloved, Jesus wants us to repent and live a new life. Our spiritual experiences should provoke true Christian behaviours.

Lastly, the first reading presents us with the birth and background of Moses and how he escaped from the palace. He escaped after killing an Egyptian for striking a Hebrew. Before he was accused of murder, Moses had held it to be a secret. Under the sun, nothing is hidden. You will be found out, therefore repent of all your sins, whether they are private or public.

LET US PRAY

O God, who show the light of your truth to those who go astray, so that they may return to the right path, give all who for the faith they profess are accounted Christians the grace to reject whatever is contrary to the name of Christ and to strive after all that does it honor. Amen.
