JESUS AND PARABLES
Exodus 19:1-2, 9-11, 16-20; Psalm – Daniel 3:52-56; Matthew 13:10-17
The disciples went up to Jesus and asked, “why do you talk to them in parables?” Jesus answered, “I speak to them in Parable because seeing they do not perceive, and hearing they do not listen, nor do they understand.” This people see and not perceive, hear and not understand because they have rigidly bound themselves within the confines of the Mosaic Law and refuse to accept the message of Jesus which is a “fulfillment” of the law.
Some persons find it difficult to assimilate God’s truth because they are blinded by their background, prejudice and bias. Others have unteachable spirit, your explanation won’t change what they have in mind. Some of them have erred because they chose the option they know best rather than the best option. The option you know best may not be correct. Let’s be open to knowledge and choose the best option. The message of Christ is a simple one those with open minds won’t deny this fact. Then, “why does he speak in parables?” Jesus speaks in parable to challenge us out of our laziness and self-bias into seeking the deeper meaning of things.
LET US PRAY
Show favour, O Lord, to your servants and mercifully increase the gifts of your grace, that, made fervent in hope, faith and charity, they may be ever watchful in keeping your commands. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
