WITNESSLINE DEVOTIONAL: DAY THREE

THEME:
REBUILDING THE BROKEN WALLS

Nehemiah 2:13

And I went out by night by the gate of the valley, even before the dragon well, and to the dung port, and inspected the walls of Jerusalem, which were broken down, and the gates thereof were consumed with fire.

MEDITATION

Beloved, if we must rebuild our broken walls today the third thing we must do is ‘Self-Introspection’

We must carry out self-introspection: When Nehemiah came to Jerusalem he was there for three days and he got up at the middle of the night and inspected the walls of Jerusalem. Beloved in Christ, we too must look for that quiet moment and go into our hearts; examine our original state and place in God; examine how we lived our life when we newly found Christ. An unexamined life is not worth living. Luke 14:28 says “For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?” If we don’t examine ourselves very well we may repeat the very errors that led us astray. Self examination is for everybody; otherwise you may just think that all is well with you when you have actually lost everything. 2 Cor. 13:5 says examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. We need to morally, spiritually, and doctrinally examine ourselves and see if we are progressing or retrogressing. Lam. 3:40 says “Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.” Ps.119:59-60 “I have considered my ways and have turned my steps to your statutes. I will hasten and not delay to obey your commands.” Anyone who wants to grow must engage in self examination. Anyone who wants to rebuild his delapidating spirit must practice constant self examination.

6 Intercessory Prayers:

Father as I contemplate the act of self- examination, I pray that your word will be the mirror that shows me to myself. I want to look at myself as you do, through the eyes of truth. You have ordained this necessary act. Your word says to let everyman examine himself.

Heavenly Father, we know that only those whose hands and hearts are pure can stand in Your Holy presence. We cannot worship idols and we must never tell lies. We know that if we want to receive Your blessing, we must first have right relationship with You. During this seven days of prayer, we take the time to examine ourselves and allow the Holy Spirit to show us where we have sinned. As the Body of Christ, we prepare our hearts and lift up our hands to You in prayer. We denounce our sins and leave our iniquity behind us. As we repent, we expect our faces to brighten with innocence.  We will be strong and free of fear. Misery has to flow away from us like water and our righteousness is brighter than the noonday. We look forward to being in Your presence. Father, we come before You this week, running with purpose in every step, not just shadowboxing. As the Body of Christ, we commit to discipline ourselves to do what we should so that our witness to those who do not know You will not be disqualified.

7 Memory verse: Nehemiah 4:4

Hear us, our God, for we are despised. Turn their insults back on their own heads. Give them over as plunder in a land of captivity.
