HOMILY FOR FRIDAY THE THIRTY-FOURTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR I

Daniel 7:2-14; Psalm – Daniel 3:75-81; Luke 21:29-33

The first reading speaks of the coming of the Son of man.  “Son of man” in this passage to refers to Jesus Christ. The Book of Daniel goes further to tell us that upon him is conferred an everlasting dominion that shall not be taken away and his kingship shall not be destroyed. Jesus himself speaks in this light when he says in the gospel that “heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” Beloved, the reign of Jesus is not temporal and his words are eternal. Let us keep his words and judge between what is valuable and what is passing. If we keep his words; we shall reign with him when he comes. If we keep to his words; we shall not dread his second coming but wait in joyful expectation.

Let us pray

Lord Jesus, help us to keep your words. We want to be more righteous, more loving, and more forgiving. Correct us and lead us to do your will. Give us the wisdom to overcome the darkness of this day. Amen.
