James 2:14-24, 26; Psalm 111; Mark 8:34-9:1
Faith versus action
James teaches “Faith and Action” in today’s first reading. “But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” “Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds” (James 2:18). Therefore, it is not enough to say we have faith; we must show that faith by our deeds. Peter in the gospel reading heard about the implication of his faith in Christ Jesus and took to denial. Jesus said to him alongside the other disciples; “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” In other words; we must convert our faith into action. If we have faith we ought not to run away from the cross.
LET US PRAY
Father, have mercy and save us. May the faith we profess in Christ Jesus not be in vain. By the power of the Holy Spirit give us victory. Amen.
