HOMILY FOR MONDAY THE SEVENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II

The Wisdom from Above

JAMES 3:13-18; PSALM 18; MARK 9:14-29

Continuing with St. James collection of practical instructions; today’s  first reading presents us with the topic “The Wisdom from Above”. James says if there is anyone amongst us who claims to be wise, he or she should prove it by a good life. Therefore, our wisdom should be coherent with a good life. Oftentimes, we know so much but exhibit bad character. James challenges us to desire the wisdom from above. This wisdom he says is pure, peaceful, gentle, friendly and productive. Beloved, we need to pray and ask God for the wisdom that comes from above. The disciples in the gospel were inefficient because they lacked the wisdom of prayerful preparation. If we too don’t pray we shall be inefficient in spite of all wisdom.

LET US PRAY

Grant, we pray, almighty God, that, always pondering spiritual things, we may carry out in both word and deed that which is pleasing to you. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
