HOMILY FOR MONDAY THE EIGHT WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II (28/2/2022)

1Peter 1:3-9; Psalm 110; Mark 10:17-27

Faith Irrespective moods

In today’s first reading we are introduced to the Firs t Letter of St Peter. It will interest you to know that the purpose of this letter is to encourage believers in the face of persecution and suffering.  What is it that you are going through? Are you sick? Are you being persecuted? Do not be discouraged.  Peter reminds us that our faith in Jesus will bring eternal gladness.  Unlike the Rich Man in the gospel reading our faith must surpass riches.  He went away sad simply because he was asked to sell all he has and give the money to the poor.  Beloved, our faith must not be determined by the riches we enjoy or the poverty we suffer. True faith exists irrespective of moods.

LET US PRAY

Father, have mercy and save us. Increase our faith that we may defeat the daily trials that come our way. Give us true and active faith and may our world be directed by your peaceful rule so that we may rejoice untroubled. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
