1Peter 1:10-16; Psalm 98; Mark 10:28-31
In the first reading Peter calls us to a holy living. “He says “Be holy because I am holy” (1Peter 1:16). Peter calls us to holiness and. In Chapter V of the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, Lumen gentium the Fathers of the Second Vatican Council say all Christ’s faithful, whatever be the conditions, duties and circumstances of their lives are to embrace holiness. In a very special way this (holiness) appears in the practice of the counsels, customarily called “evangelical” (Chastity, poverty (or perfect charity), and obedience). In the gospel Jesus continued with this theme; He says we must renounce everything (world) in order to make heaven. Beloved, as we begin a new month today and a new season in the Church (Lent) let us make every effort to renounce sin and announce Jesus as the saviour of the world by our lives.
LET US PRAY
Father into hands we commend our spirit, make us your temple fit for your dwelling. By the power of the Holy Spirit give us grace to put aside every distraction and receive eternal reward. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
