HOMILY FOR MONDAY THE TWENTY-THIRD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR 1

STRETCH OUT YOUR HAND

1 Corinthians 5:1-8; Psalm 5; Luke 6:6-11

In Luke 6:6–11, Jesus miraculously restored a man with a withered hand. He said to him, “Stretch out your hand. He did so, and his hand was completely restored (Luke 6:10). The Scribes and Pharisees rose against Jesus because of their Sabbath’s laws and structures.

For Jesus, every law must give expression to compassion and love. No law is against genuine love and care. Without love, we cannot care for those with disabilities or those in need. Care for others shouldn’t be constrained by laws and rules.

The restoration of the withered hand is a clear justification that our hands have been released. Therefore, let us stretch out our hands to love and care for the needy and disabled. Stretch out your hands and make the world a better place.

St. Paul manifested this genuine love and care for the Colossians in the first reading. He gladly went through suffering and pain to ensure that the Colossians remained faithful to the message of Christ. Let us use our knowledge, gifts, and power to help, not hinder.

LET US PRAY

Father, you redeem us and make us Your children in Christ. Look upon us, give us true freedom and bring us to the inheritance you promised. Amen.
