HOMILY FOR THURSDAY OF THE 27TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME II

Persistent Prayer

Galatians 3:1-5; Psalm 111; Luke 11:5-13

In the midst of life’s troubles and worries, we are encouraged to persistently stir up petitions, just like the neighbour who asked for a loaf of bread at midnight in the gospel.

Our Lord assures us, “For everyone who knocks, the door will be opened” (Luke 11:10). Through persistent prayer, we invite God the Father to send the Holy Spirit into our hearts, granting us strength and peace.

Prayer is not a one-time attempt but a continuous, heartfelt petition to God. By praying persistently, we deepen our faith, clarify our requests, and shift our focus from self-centeredness to a theocentric approach.

As St. Paul reminds the Galatians, prayer is not a function of the law but of faith (Galatians 3:1-5). Hebrews 11:6 echoes this sentiment, “Without faith, it is impossible to please God.” We don’t pray because we want to fulfill our duty, we pray because it’s a relationship.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, grant us the gift of prayer, that we may serve you with increased fervor, follow your will with more promptness, and observe your divine precepts with greater fidelity. Amen.
