St Joseph
2 Samuel 7:4-5, 12-14, 16; PSALM 88; Romans 4:13, 16-18, 22; Matthew 1:16, 18-21, 24
In the first reading, God promised David a secure throne and dynasty, which was fulfilled in Jesus Christ, demonstrating God’s faithfulness, even in the face of our unfaithfulness.
Today, the church celebrates the solemnity of St. Joseph, the husband of Mary. Joseph was a man of faith and trust. He followed the promptings of the Holy Spirit and delivered his part in the great plan for the salvation of the world. St. Joseph offers some valuable lessons through his life and character.
St. Joseph demonstrated loyalty to God by marrying Mary despite pregnancy complications, shielding Jesus from King Herod’s orders, and exemplifies the importance of faith in God’s direction despite challenges.
St. Joseph committed his life to taking care of Mary and Jesus. He was a modest and unselfish man. The Christian values of humility, generosity, and selfless love are exemplified by his modest service.
St. Joseph, as the guardian of Mary and Jesus, emphasized the significance of safeguarding and nurturing our loved ones, particularly the vulnerable and marginalized.
From St. Joseph, we can learn to listen to the Holy Spirit, express true devotion to Mary, have a sincere commitment to Jesus, and harmonize the virtues of prayer and labor.
Let us pray.
Grant, we pray, almighty God, that by Saint Joseph’s intercession, your Church may constantly watch over the unfolding of the mysteries of human salvation, whose beginnings you entrusted to his faithful care. Lead us in the ways of peace, humility, and grace. Amen.
