Amos 3:1-8, 4:11-12; Psalm 5; Matthew 8:23-27
The first reading of today reminds the people about their sin against God and warn them of the Lord’s punishment if they don’t repent. Thus, the Lord asked; “Is a trumpet blown in a city, and the people are not afraid?” Beloved, we must not wait for the sound of trumpet before we align ourselves with God. Today’s Psalm further reminds us that no sinner is the Lord’s guest, all who lie he destroys and the deceitful and those who shed blood he detests. Therefore, like the disciples in the gospel reading of today we must cry out to the Lord saying: “save us, Lord; we are perishing.” Save us Lord; we are sick. Save us Lord; we are poor. Save us Lord; we are sinking.
ACT OF CONTRITION
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because of Thy just punishments, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, Who art all-good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin.
