Light Without Lies
1 John 2:3-11; Psalm 96; Luke 2:22-35
St. John confronts us with a hard truth: “Whoever says he loves God but disobeys His commandments is a liar.” This Word is uncomfortable because it exposes us. Many of us rush to church yet remain at war with our neighbour. We sing about love while hatred quietly rules our hearts. Love for God that does not change our behaviour is only noise.
John goes further: “Whoever claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in darkness.” Light and hatred cannot share the same space. You cannot hold a candle in church and carry darkness in your heart. Faith that does not heal relationships has not yet met Christ.
Simeon recognized Jesus as “a light for revelation to the Gentiles.” That same light now shines through us. We are called not just to talk about Christ, but to reflect Him. When we obey God’s commandments, we become light; when we love sincerely, we reveal Christ. The world will not believe because we shout louder, but because we live brighter.
Prayer:
Lord, cleanse our hearts of hatred and hypocrisy. Teach us to love you by obeying your Word, and make us true lights in a dark world. Amen.
