HOMILY: TUESDAY OF THE SEVENTH WEEK OF EASTER

Farewell Moments

Acts 20:17-27; Psalm 68; John 17:1-11

Both readings present farewell speeches. In John 17, Jesus offers His farewell prayer to the disciples, entrusting them to the Father as He prepares for His Passion and departure.

In Acts 20:17-27, St. Paul bids farewell to the elders of Ephesus, recalling his faithful service and commitment to the Gospel. In both cases, their final words are not centered on themselves but on mission, fidelity, and the care of those they leave behind.

Paul also notes “I did not shrink from proclaiming the whole counsel of God.” He refused to water down the truth just to make people comfortable.

Jesus says: “I glorified You on earth by accomplishing the work You gave Me to do.” Jesus finished His mission faithfully. Both Jesus and Paul teach us that true success is not fame, power, wealth, or public approval, but finishing the mission God entrusted to us.

Many people today are busy but empty, running but without direction. You were created for a purpose. Your gifts, voice, faith, and sacrifices matter. Glorify God with them. Do not bury your calling under excuses, laziness, fear, or distraction. Live truthfully, faithfully and finish well!

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, save us from living empty and distracted lives. Give us the grace to finish our mission with joy and integrity. May our lives glorify You and bring others closer to Your Kingdom. Amen.
