HOMILY: MONDAY THE NINTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

DON’T WASTE THE VINEYARD

‎2 Peter 1:2-7;Psalm 90:1-2,14-16; Mark 12:1-12

‎In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of the wicked tenants who enjoyed the fruits of the vineyard but refused to honour its owner. They even killed the owner’s son in an attempt to seize what was never theirs. The message is clear: God has entrusted each of us with gifts, opportunities, talents, and responsibilities. The question is not what God has given us, but what we are doing with what He has given us.

‎St. Peter reminds us that faith is only the beginning. We must add virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly affection, and love. In other words, God expects growth. A Christian who refuses to grow spiritually is like a tenant who enjoys the vineyard but produces no fruit.

‎Today we also celebrate the memorial of Justin Martyr. As a philosopher, Justin searched tirelessly for truth and found it in Christ. He did not keep that truth to himself; he defended the faith courageously, even unto death. He reminds us that Christianity is not merely something to believe but something worth living and dying for.

 Prayer

‎Lord Jesus, help us to be faithful stewards of the gifts You have entrusted to us. May we grow daily in virtue and courage, following the example of St. Justin Martyr, so that our lives may bear abundant fruit for Your Kingdom. Amen.
