Faithful in Drought, Blessed in Attitude
1 Kings 17:1-6, Psalm 121; Matthew 5:1-12
“As the Lord God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word.” In the first reading, Elijah prayed for drought in the land of Judah while himself experiences God’s provision. The land of Judah under the Ahab’s apostasy suffered drought, while ravens were sent to care for Elijah. Ahab government supported the worship of Baal and other gods. Elijah, a name which means Yahweh is my God, lived a life that was true to his name. He lived according to God’s will and he was not abandoned.
Christ calls us to live a life that is true to our identity as Christians. In today’s gospel he gives us with the beatitudes. The beatitudes are Christ’s commentaries on our attitudes. These short phrases give us the perfect outline for authentic Christian life and salvation. Attitude is everything, let us improve on our attitude and live a life that reflects the the gospel truth.
LET US PRAY
Father, have mercy and save us. As we go about our activities this day, bless and protect us from every evil. Give success to the work of our hands. Amen.
