‎HOMILY FOR TUESDAY OF THE SEVENTEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

SIN AS A NATIONAL CRISIS

‎Jeremiah 14:17-22. Psalm 79. Matthew 13:36-43

Jeremiah stood in the middle of a nation falling apart and did not point fingers. He owned it. We have sinned against you, no spin and no excuses (Jer.14:20). No blaming the other tribe, the other party, and the other generation.

‎That is where repentance starts. On your knees, not on a press release or blame game. Again, Jeremiah did not bargain with God based on how good Israel had been. He begged based on how faithful God is. Do not dishonor your throne. Remember your covenant (Jer.14:21). Then he asked the question that still cuts us today. Can any idol bring rain. Is it not You alone, Lord our God.

‎We keep running to false gods for national problems. Politics. Money. Prophets for hire. Systems. They promise a lot. They deliver dust.

Jesus says the same thing in a different key. The weeds and the wheat grow together until harvest. God will sort it. Our job is not to play judge. Our job is to stay faithful while we wait.

‎Beloved, every revival in history started in the same place, confession and not excuses or hashtags, slogans. No! Confession. If you don’t accept your wrongs, you won’t get things right. If we want rain, we need repentance. If we want healing, we need honesty. If we want God to act, we need to stop outsourcing our trust to things that cannot save.

‎PRAYER

‎Merciful Father, forgive our sins. Wash our hearts. Teach us to trust You alone and not our idols. Keep us faithful as we wait for Your justice. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
