HOMILY FOR THURSDAY: FEAST OF ST MATTHIAS, APOSTLE

Acts 1:15-17, 20-26; Psalm 112; John 15:9-17

The first reading presents us with the election of Matthias as one of the Twelve to replace Judas Iscariot. Barsabbas and Matthias were nominated. The apostles  prayed then drew lots, and Matthias came forth. Therefore, it is apostolic in character to pray before making choices as we have in modern-day conclaves. Politicians can learn from this. In the gospel, Jesus says you did not choose me but i chose you. Through prayer we are able to access the choice and discern the will that is in the heart of the Father before the foundations of the world.  Lord Jesus, grant that we may respect apostolic tradition and fulfill your will. Amen

Let us pray

Act of Contrition
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because of thy just punishments, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve with the help of Thy grace to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen.

Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
