Be Steadfast
NUMBERS 12:1-13; PSALM 51; MATTHEW 14:22-36
In the first reading, Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses in connection with the Cushite woman he had married and they were also jealous of him because God was speaking through Moses. The Lord chastised them, but they continued to speak ill of Moses. Miriam eventually contracted leprosy, while Aaron sought God’s pardon. Sometimes, like Miriam and Aaron, we hurt our siblings out of jealousy.
However, Moses remained focused. He further proved his innocence and love when he asked God to forgive Miriam. The same is expected of us when we are faced with persecution. Situations around us should not alter our faith in Christ.
Peter in the Gospel reading could walk on the sea in response to the Lord’s command. But when he became conscious of the situation around him, he doubted and began to sink. Let us remain steadfast and determined, regardless of the situation we go through. A steadfast person knows what he believes and cannot be “tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching” (Ephesians 4:14).
Today, the church celebrates St. Dominic. He was a priest who discerned what was most needed in the wake and spread of error. He boldly proclaimed the truth with clarity, as taught by the Scriptures and the Church. St. Dominic, pray for us.
LET US PRAY
Father, grant us the wisdom to manage our tongues properly. Let us season whatever we say with love and peace. May our words inspire others to become nearer to you through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen
