ACTS 9:1-20; PSALM 117; JOHN 6:52-59
The first reading presents us with the conversion of Saul on the road to Damascus. This was a major U-turn in the life of Saul. It brought about the change of his name; change of heart; change of mission and change of character. Conversion must go beyond change of names. At baptism people bear saintly names but afterwards their names do not match their lives. Conversion is not the change of name but the change of heart. The result of genuine conversion is transformation. Saul was transformed and he began to preach in the synagogues. After our conversion we must endeavour to make Christ known. The response to today’s psalm challenges us further saying; “Go out to the whole world; proclaim the Good News.” Beloved, many will not know God except we speak. Many will not know that the flesh of Jesus is real food and his blood real drink if we do not speak. Many people wallow in ignorance because they have not being taught. It is our Christian duty to teach – one of the Spiritual works of mercy says “Instruct the ignorant”. Instruct them; do not destroy them.
LET US PRAY
Grant, we pray, almighty God, that we, who have come to know the grace of the Lord’s Resurrection, may, through the love of the Spirit, ourselves rise to newness of life. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.
