HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY  TWENTY-FIRST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR 1 (25/8/2021)

1Thessalonians 2:9-13/PSALM 139/ MATTHEW 23:27-32

Today’s gospel presents us with Christ’s message against hypocrisy. Hypocrisy is the practice of professing beliefs, feelings, or virtues that one does not hold or possess. The scribes and Pharisees appeared like holy men outside, but within they are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. Beloved, actions speak louder than words. In the first reading, Paul matched his words with his actions. While he preached all day; he remained blameless all night. Today’s psalm asks “O where can I go from your spirit, or where can I flee from your face? If I climb the heavens, you are there. If I lie in the grave, you are there.” Beloved, we may decieve others but we cannot hide from God. Therefore, let us renounce hyprocrisy and pursue righteousness.

LET US PRAY

We pray that the eyes of our hearts be made clear, so that we may be aware of the inconsistencies in our thoughts and actions. We ask for pardon for all our hypocrisies, and pray for those who suffer because of our weaknesses and bad examples. Lord Jesus, help us and save us. Amen.
