Return to God
MICAH 7:14–15, 18–20; PSALM 103; LUKE 15:1-3, 11–32
The parable of the Prodigal Son highlights how we turn away from God and abandon our true inheritance in pursuit of lust and temporal goods. Like the Prodigal Son, we come to a point in our lives where we realize our nothingness before God, where we discover that we have displaced our treasure for pleasure and strayed from our true home. We suddenly realize our compulsive behaviour and addiction.
Like the Prodigal Son, many children have left home for distant lands. Some are struggling to survive yet cannot return home. Some are in deep stress, doing awkward jobs, practically eating with pigs and dogs. Some have given in to the free reign of drugs and sex. Let’s return to God. The prodigal son came to his senses and returned to his Father. This season of lent that beautiful hymn reechoes “Yes, I shall arise and return to my father.”
Let us pray:
May God guide us through this Lenten season and bring us back and closer to Him. Amen.
