HOMILY FOR THURSDAY, FIFTH WEEK OF EASTER

Love First, Then Law

Acts 15:7–21; Psalm 96; John 15:9–11

Jesus says, “Remain in my love.” This is more than a feeling, it’s a daily decision. To remain in His love means to stay rooted in obedience, grounded in truth, and driven by compassion. Love without action is noise; faith without love is empty.

In the first reading, when tension rose about including Gentile converts, the apostles chose love over legalism. They didn’t water down the truth, they elevated grace. Love doesn’t ignore God’s law; it applies it with mercy and wisdom.

In today’s world, where rules often divide and religion is sometimes used as a weapon, let love bring healing, unity, and joy. The Church must be a hospital for sinners, not a courtroom of condemnation. When we put love before law, we don’t lose holiness—we reveal the heart of God.

LET US PRAY

O God of mercy and truth, help us to remain in Your love by keeping Your commandments with joy. May the Holy Spirit guide our actions so that we may bring light and healing to a world in need. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
