HOMILY: TUESDAY OF THE TWENTY-FIRST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR 1

FALSE TEACHING AND BEHAVIOUR

2 Thessalonians 2:1–8; Psalm 96; Matthew 23:23–26

St. Paul urges the people to remain faithful to Christ and not be deceived by false prophets, especially those who speculate about the end of the world. Today, too, we must warn against such misleading end-time prophecies and teachings that distract many from the truth. Instead, we are called to stand firm and hold fast to the apostolic traditions, even in times of adversity and spiritual confusion.

In the Gospel, Jesus rebukes the scribes and Pharisees for their hypocrisy. They were obsessed with rules and outward rituals but neglected what truly matters: justice, mercy, faith, and love. Such behaviour reduces Christianity to a tool of control rather than a path to God. Beloved, rejecting false teaching and empty religious practices is not optional, it is essential for authentic discipleship.

LET US PRAY

Lord Jesus, grant us wisdom to discern the truth, courage to reject falsehood, and grace to live in love and integrity. Amen.
