The Rejection Syndrome
1 Thess. 4:13–18; Ps. 96; Lk. 4:16–30
Jesus was rejected by His own people. Today, we repeat the same mistake, rejecting Him not with words, but with deeds. Some reject Him by chatting, dozing, or scrolling through social media during Mass. Others reject Him by twisting His teachings to suit their opinions.
Even ministers are rejected, not always for preaching Christ, but for poor witness and unfaithfulness. Yet Jesus was innocent of blame. The question is: When people reject the Gospel today, is it because of Christ, or because of us?
Great danger lies in rejecting God’s voice in familiar persons. Don’t let pride, prejudice, or distraction blind you to grace. Remember: rejection of Christ is rejection of salvation.
If you ignore Jesus in the ordinary, don’t expect to find Him in the extraordinary.
Prayer
Lord, open our hearts to recognize and accept You in every circumstance, and never to reject the grace You bring. Amen.
