HOMILY: SATURDAY THE THIRD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II (Saint John Bosco)

David’s Storm

2 Samuel 12:1-7,10-17, Psalm  50:12-17, Mark 4:35-41

In life, we are often quick to judge other people’s sins while defending our own. Judge for others and layers for ourselves. In 2 Samuel 12, David was furious at an injustice story until Nathan said, “You are the man.” David’s hidden sin did not remain hidden. In Numbers 32:23 Moses warns the tribes of Gad and Reuben saying; “be sure your sin will find you out”. This signifies that hidden disobedience will eventually be exposed, either in this life or at judgment.

David’s sin produced consequences that disturbed his peace and his household. We cannot expect God’s peace while we continue to leave in sin. He brought the storm into his life. Little things can bring storms into our life if we are not guarded.

In Mark 4, the disciples panicked in a storm and cried, “Lord, do you not care?” Many of our storms look external, but some are born from unresolved guilt and hidden sins. Jesus can calm any storm, but He also invites us to honesty. Peace flows where truth is embraced.

God did not abandon David; He restored him through repentance. God sees beyond our public image and social social status. When we stop defending our sins and start confessing them, mercy meets us.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, cleanse our hearts, calm the storms within us, and restore our peace. Lead us to walk in your light with sincerity and faith. Amen.
