Acts 22:30-23:6-11; Psalm 16; John 17:20-26
Todayβs readings reveal two important dimensions of Christian discipleship: perseverance in trials and unity in love. In the first reading, St. Paul faces division – the Pharisees and Sadducees; and threats because of his faith in Christ. Yet, the Lord appeared to him saying “βCourage! You have borne witness for me in Jerusalem, now you must do the same in Rome” (Acts 23:11).Β
St. Paul teaches us that faith is seen in days struggles and perseverance. Hardship is a test of discipleship. As he would later write, βWe rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces enduranceβ (Romans 5:3).
In the Gospel, Jesus prays for unity: βMay they all be oneβ (John 17:21). This is not just a mere social agreement or external harmony but a profound spiritual communion rooted in the trinity. Profound in the sense of koinonia; partnership, shared life, shared burden and joys. It’s practical communion. This kind of unity begins with U (you).Β
Christian unity is rooted in love, forgiveness, and truth. A divided family or Church, weakens the witness of the Gospel. Beloved, remain steadfast in trials and united in love. Do not allow hatred, pride, gossip, or unforgiveness to divide your household. Have faith and stay united.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, strengthen us in times of trial and unite us in love and truth. May we remain faithful to You and become witnesses of peace, courage, and unity in our families and . Amen.
