HOMILY: FRIDAY WEEK EIGHT IN ORDINARY TIME

FRUITS, NOT JUST LEAVES

‎1 Peter 4:7-13; Psalm 95:10-13 Mark 11:11-26

‎St. Peter says “the end of all things is near.” This is not a threat but a call to live genuinely. A call to pray sincerely, love deeply, and serve faithfully. A call to live authentic Christian life.

‎In the Gospel, Jesus curses the fig tree because it had leaves but no fruit. It looked alive outwardly, but inwardly it was barren. Some of us today are like that fig tree; active in church, loud in worship, visible online, yet lacking the fruits of holiness, honesty, forgiveness and compassion.

‎Jesus also cleanses the temple, reminding us that God’s house must be a house of prayer, not corruption or distraction. Our hearts too must be cleansed of bitterness, pride, and hypocrisy.

‎God is not impressed by appearances alone. He is looking for fruits. A fruitful Christian is known not only by prayers and words, but by character, love, and a life that reflects Christ.

Prayer

‎Lord Jesus, remove every spiritual dryness and hypocrisy from our lives. Help us to bear fruits of holiness, prayer, love, and truth, so that our lives may truly glorify You. Amen.
