‎HOMILY FOR TUESDAY OF THE FOURTEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME ‎

Labourers, not Complainers
‎
‎Hosea 8:4-7, 11-13; Psalm 115; Matthew 9:32-38
‎
‎The Pharisees accused Jesus of working by the power of demons (Matt. 9:34). They criticized him, but their criticism did it stop His compassion. He saw the people harassed and helpless like sheep without a shepherd (Matt.9:36). He then called for labourers, note, he called labourers not spectators, observers, or critics, to gather the harvest. God is still looking for people who will help, not just watch.
‎
‎The Church needs more labourers than complainers. It needs more gospellers not gossiper. It needs workers not mockers (1Cor. 3:9). It is easy to criticize God’s work; but hard to participate in it. Let us ask for the grace to have hearts that recognize God’s action, hands that build His Kingdom, and lives that become instruments of His mercy rather than obstacles to His mission.
‎
‎In the first reading, we see a case of functional substitute. Despite God’s covenant love, Israel turned to idols and trusted in what they had made with their own hands. They abandoned the Creator for created things, fulfilling the warning: “They sow the wind and shall reap the whirlwind” (Hos. 8:7). Every idol eventually disappoints because anything that replaces God ultimately enslaves us.
‎
LET US PRAY
‎
‎Lord Jesus, remove every hardness from our hearts. Keep us faithful to You, free us from every false idol, and make us joyful labourers in Your vineyard, eager to build rather than destroy Your Kingdom. Amen.
