2CORINTHIANS 1:18-22; PSALM 119; MATTHEW 5:13-16
Light and salt were precious and valuable commodities in ancient cultures. Even today, no one can claim comfort without light or hold on to a meal without salt. These two elements are significant and vital to human existence. So, when Jesus calls us light; he wants us to drive away darkness from the world. Then as salt, Jesus wants us to preserve the values of life and eternity. Our world needs light that will guide it out of conflict and darkness. If we do not shine the world will remain in darkness. Christ wants us to shine! He says in the Gospel “Your light must shine in the sight of men”. Beloved, let your light shine; we are ordained to shine and we are anointed to shine. Paul says in the first reading; “God himself has anointed us and given us his Spirit”. Beloved, do not waste the anointing of God over your life. Let us shine and give meaning to our world.
LET US PRAY
Father, with you there is no darkness. Your character has no shadows, and you are pure and good. Yet in our broken world, we see so much darkness around us. Pain, sickness, and disease are in our community and in many of our homes. Bring your light and restoring presence to the dark places in our lives. Bring your hope to hearts that feel defeated. Bring your love and compassion to those in pain. Lord Jesus, let your light shine through us so that through our actions we may be salt for the earth and light to many. Amen
