HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY, THE FOURTH DAY IN THE OCTAVE OF CHRISTMAS (29/12/2021)

1 John 2:3-11; Psalm 96; Luke 2:22-35

St. John says in the first reading that ‘he who says he loves God but disobeys his commandments is a liar’. Many of us belong to this category. We claim to love God but disobey his commandments. A man hurries to the Church everyday but he is not at peace with his neighbour. We profess we love God but we have so much hatred in our hearts. John continues, he says ‘He who says he is in the light and hates his brother is in the darkness.’ Are we in the light? Simeon recognised Jesus as the Light! He is the Light prepared to enlighten the pagans. We too are to enlighten the world. We must beam the rays of Christ into the darkest areas of our lives. When we keep his commandments the light of Christ shines brighter.

LET US PRAY

Almighty and invisible God, who dispersed the darkness of this world by the coming of your light, look, we pray, with serene countenance upon us, that we may acclaim with fitting praise the greatness of the Nativity of your Only Begotten Son. Who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
