HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OF THE ELEVENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

TREASURES IN HEAVEN

2 Corinthians 11:18, 21–30 | Psalm 34 | Matthew 6:19–23

Jesus says “Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven!” (Matt. 6:20). Why? Because your heart follows your treasure. There are a lot of things vying for your heart. If you don’t guard it,  the world will hijack it.

We live in a world addicted to accumulation, more clothes, more wigs and bags, more creams, more shoes, more clicks and likes. What if your status on earth is poverty in eternity? Reorder your desires, don’t let worldly junk take up eternal space!

Jesus is not against wealth or comfort. He’s against wasted life. When He is your treasure, your wallet, your watch, and your work all begin to revolve around heaven’s priorities. Time becomes service. Money becomes mission. Talent becomes testimony.

Look at Paul in the first reading: beaten, shipwrecked, hungry but rich in Christ. He had nothing, yet lacked nothing. His secret? “I will boast in my weakness,” because in Christ, weakness becomes wealth. Paul’s treasure wasn’t comfort, it was Christ.

What is your treasure? If it’s not eternal, it’s expendable. If it doesn’t lead to heaven, it may be dragging you to hell. It’s time to declutter your heart. Simplify your life. Invest in the poor. Risk for the kingdom.

LET US PRAY

Lord Jesus, strip us of distractions. Help us live for eternity. We choose You, we store in You, and surrender to You. Amen.
