Correct, don’t crush
Genesis 12,1–9 | Psalm 32 | Matthew 7,1–5
“Do not judge, so that you may not be judged.” (Matt. 7,1) Today Jesus is not saying, “Throw away all standards”. He is saying, “Start with yourself!” We live in a world full of finger-pointing Pharisees—quick to condemn, slow to confess. We spot specks in others while ignoring the planks of pride, gossip, envy, and unforgiveness in our own eyes.
Jesus is against double standards. When you correct without compassion, and condemn without introspection, you are a pretender, not a prophet. God didn’t call us to be spiritual snipers but wounded healers. Correct, don’t crush. “Judge not” doesn’t mean “Say nothing.” It means “Speak with love.” Correction is part of Christian charity. The goal is not to shame people, but to save their souls!
Don’t let your faith become a platform for spiritual arrogance. If your Christianity makes you look down on people, you have missed the Cross! Jesus dined with sinners, touched lepers, and welcomed outcasts. He didn’t excuse their sin, but He offered a way out, not a beatdown.
Before you inspect someone else’s life, inspect your own. The one who kneels in confession is slower to throw stones. If we all spent more time examining our hearts, we would spend less time policing others. Use the mirror before the microscope.
LET US PRAY:
Lord God, You placed this world in our hands—not to control others, but to cultivate compassion. Give us the grace to correct without crushing, to speak truth in love, and to reflect Your mercy in how we treat those who fall. Help us drop the stones, and extend the hand of grace. Amen.
